即使 + hypothesis，(S) + 也 + unchanged result
即使…也… presents a hypothesis (often an unfavorable one) and says the outcome stays the same: 即使明天下雨，比赛也照常进行. Unlike 虽然, which concedes a real fact, 即使 concerns a supposition that may not happen. 也 follows the subject of the second clause. It often combines with 再 + adjective (即使再忙也…). Colloquial equivalents are 就算…也… and 哪怕…也….
HSK 4–5 gap fills; often set against 虽然 and 既然.
Examples
即使明天下雨，比赛也会照常进行。
Even if it rains tomorrow, the match will go ahead.
即使你不说，我也知道。
Even if you don't tell me, I know.
即使工作再忙，他也每天给父母打电话。
However busy he is, he calls his parents every day.
这个问题即使是老师也不一定能回答。
Even a teacher might not be able to answer this question.
