连…都/也… highlights an extreme case to imply everything else: 这么简单的问题，连孩子都知道 'even a child knows'. 都 or 也 is required. What follows 连 can be the subject (连老师都不知道) or an object moved before the verb (他连饭都没吃). 连 + 一 + measure word + 都/也 + negative means 'not even one': 他连一句话也没说.
