存现句

Existential sentence: something exists, appears or disappears somewhere

HSK 4HSK 3.0 · 4

Place/time + V + 着/了/complement + quantity + N (indefinite)

An existential sentence starts with a place (or time), then the verb, then what exists or appears: 桌子上放着一本词典 'there is a dictionary on the desk'. The place at the start takes no 在 (*在桌子上放着… is a common error). The noun after the verb is usually indefinite with a quantity (一本书, 很多人), not 那本书. Use V着 for existence as a state (挂着, 站着), and V了/V来 for appearance or disappearance (来了一位客人, 走了两个人).
