What is in the free HSK 4 mock test?

Each test has 100 questions in the same three sections as the real exam: 45 listening, 40 reading and 15 writing, covering all 8 HSK 4 task types (题型). See the HSK 4 format for each one.

The tests are written for Hanzi Pass (AI draft, reviewed by a teacher) and do not reproduce CTI's real papers (真题). You practise the right task types and difficulty without meeting items whose answers you already know.

Just like the real test

• Each section is timed separately: about 30 minutes listening, 40 reading, 25 writing.
• Listening is played once, as in the real HSK 4, with no rewinding.
• No pinyin on the paper, and four options per multiple-choice item, as in the real exam.
• The writing section has an on-screen pinyin keyboard to type characters, phones included.
• Picture sentences (看图，用词造句) are scored by AI on task, grammar and vocabulary.

Instant score and result

When you submit, you see your listening, reading and writing scores out of 100, your total out of 300 and a pass/fail result against the HSK 4 pass mark of 180. You can review every question with its correct answer.

The result also shows the task types you missed most, such as sentence ordering (排列顺序) or long dialogues, so you know what to practise next.

Note: CTI equates scores per paper and does not publish a conversion table, so the Hanzi Pass score is an estimate. Use it to track progress rather than to predict your exact exam score.

How to get the most out of it

• Set aside about two uninterrupted hours, find a quiet place and use headphones.
• Do all three sections in one sitting to get used to real time pressure.
• Do not look words up during the test; flag uncertain items to check later.
• After the result, go through your mistakes and add new words to your review list.
• Practise your one or two weakest task types before taking the next test.

Mock tests for other levels

Besides HSK 4, there are mock tests for HSK 1–6, the HSKK speaking test at all three levels and TOCFL Bands A and B. In Vietnam, HSK 4 is taken together with HSKK Intermediate, so it is worth practising that speaking test as well. Each of these exams has its own free test, so you can also check the level below or above HSK 4 at no cost.

After the mock test

If your score is far from 180, take the placement test to check whether HSK 4 is the right target for now, and review the vocabulary: HSK 4 assumes about 1,200 words, so if many words in the test were new to you, vocabulary is the first thing to work on. If you are close, pick a date from the HSK test dates 2026 and keep practising with a full HSK 4 mock test.
