离合词

Separable verbs: verb–object compounds that can be split

HSK 3HSK 3.0 · 4

V + 了/过/着/complement/quantity + O (见了面, 睡了八个小时觉, 帮我一个忙)

Many two-syllable verbs are really 'verb + object': 睡觉, 见面, 帮忙, 洗澡, 跑步, 游泳, 结婚, 生气, 请假, 毕业. Since they already contain an object, they cannot take another one: not *见面他 but 跟他见面; not *帮忙我 but 帮我的忙/帮我一个忙. 了, 过, numbers and durations go in the middle: 见过一次面, 睡了八个小时觉. Reduplication is AAB: 散散步, 聊聊天 (not *散步散步).

HSK 3–4 sentence ordering (见面, 帮忙, 毕业 are classic traps).
