的 / 地 / 得
Three particles pronounced 'de': 的 before nouns, 地 before verbs, 得 after verbs
HSK 3HSK 3.0 · 3
Attributive + 的 + N | Adverbial + 地 + V | V/Adj + 得 + complement
All three are read 'de', so they are easily confused in writing, but the rule is simple: look at what comes next. Before a noun use 的 (漂亮的衣服). Before a verb, when the preceding word describes the manner, use 地 (认真地学习, 高兴地说). After a verb or adjective, linking to a degree or state complement, use 得 (学得很认真, 累得不想动).
HSK 3 character fill-in and HSK 4–5 writing; a frequent source of lost points.
