果然

As expected; sure enough

HSK 5HSK 3.0 · 5

(S) + 果然 + V/Adj

果然 says the outcome matched a prediction or what others said, 'sure enough': 天气预报说今天有雨,下午果然下起雨来. A preceding clause usually states the expectation (听说, 我猜, 天气预报说…). It is the opposite of 居然/竟然 (contrary to expectation). 果然 normally follows the subject but can also open the clause.

HSK 5 gap fills; 果然 vs 居然 is a classic trap.
