S + 未必 + V/Adj | (那)也未必

未必 is a soft negation meaning 'not necessarily', like 不一定 but more formal: 贵的东西未必就好 'expensive things aren't necessarily good'. It is often used to challenge a common assumption. It can stand alone in a reply: 那也未必 'not necessarily'. Don't confuse 未必 (not necessarily true) with 一定不 (definitely not) or 不必 (no need).
