Tips

  • Read the three options while waiting to predict the question: all places → 在哪儿; all times → 什么时候 / 几点; all activities → 想做什么.
  • Track who says what: questions usually start 男的… or 女的…. Note “man: …, woman: …” in your head on the first play.
  • Watch words of intention and advice: 吧 (suggestion), 别 (don't), 要…了 (about to), 可能 (maybe), 得 děi (must).
  • On the second play, focus on the part that answers the question you heard the first time.

Common traps

  • All three options occur in the dialogue: 你去商店还是去医院?— 我先去医院,再去商店。问:女的先去哪儿? The word 先 decides.
  • Answering about the wrong speaker: the question is about 男的 but you remember what 女的 said. Do not choose before you hear the question.
