TOCFL Band C · Listening · questions 21–50
Part 2 (questions 21–50): lectures, news reports, interviews, speeches, features — about three questions each. The recordings are long and dense, with terms from economics, society, science and culture; each is played once, so listen for the structure, not for every word.

Tips
- Skim the options of all three questions before the recording starts to know whether to listen for the main idea, figures or opinions.
- Follow the outline: the opening (今天要談的是…), the points (首先、其次、此外、另一方面), the turns (然而、不過), the conclusion (總而言之、換句話說). Questions usually hang on exactly these points.
- Figures: 百分之三十 = 30%, 三成 = 30%, 一億 = 100 million, 兩千萬 = 20 million, 增加了一倍 = doubled. Mark each figure with its unit in the booklet as you hear it.
- Separate the speaker's view from views they quote: 有人認為…, 批評者指出… are not necessarily the speaker's opinion; theirs usually comes with 我認為, 值得注意的是, 我們應該.
- Topics are often rooted in Taiwanese society: 少子化, 高齡化, 長照, 健保, 新住民, 外籍移工, 綠能, 颱風. Listen to Taiwanese news and podcasts regularly to get used to the vocabulary and the speed.
Common traps
- Reading 三成 as “three parts” or 3%: each 成 is 10%, so 三成 = 30%.
- Choosing an option stronger than what was said: the speaker says 可能會 and the option says 一定會; or the speaker has reservations and the option says 完全反對.
- Getting stuck on one unknown word and missing the rest of the passage; Band C always has words you have not met — let them go and keep the thread.
