TOCFL Band B · Listening · questions 26–50

Part 2 (questions 26–50): one-speaker recordings — announcements, short news items, voicemails, speeches, introductions — each with 2 questions. The recordings are longer, so you need both the main idea and the details, and you still hear each one only once.

Tips

  • Before each recording, read the options of both questions: usually one asks for the main idea (這段話主要在說什麼?) and one for a detail (a figure, a time, a reason).
  • The main idea is usually in the first or last sentence; listen for summing-up words like 總之, 所以, 因此, 最重要的是.
  • Listen for structure words that signal a new point: 首先、其次、另外、最後; 不過/但是 tells you the important information comes next.
  • Taiwanese announcements follow set patterns: 各位旅客您好, 本列車開往…, 下一站, 請勿在車廂內飲食, 本店即將打烊 (closing soon). Once they are familiar, focus on what changes: the time, the platform, the reason for a delay.
  • As soon as you have the first answer, mark it in the booklet and keep listening — the information for the second question may come only seconds later.

Common traps

  • Taking a detail for the main idea: a talk about the benefits of cycling may mention the 捷運, but the 捷運 is not the main idea.
  • Choosing an absolute option (一定、都、從來不、只有) when the speaker only said 可能、大部分、常常.
  • Misreading large numbers: 一萬 = 10,000 and 三萬 = 30,000; Vietnamese counts in thousands, so it is easy to be off by one place.
