Longer recordings
TOCFL Band A · Listening · questions 41–50
Part 4 (questions 41–50): longer recordings — a station announcement, a voicemail, someone introducing themselves or telling a story — each with 2 questions (5 recordings, 10 questions). Each recording is played once and then both questions follow, so you need to hold two pieces of information at the same time.

Tips
- Before the audio starts, read the options of both questions: knowing in advance whether you need a time, a price or a place lets you listen with a purpose.
- The information usually comes in the order of the questions: the first answer early, the second later. Once you have the first answer, switch your attention straight to the second.
- The opening line tells you the kind of text and its purpose: 各位旅客 (an announcement to passengers), 喂,我是… (a voicemail), 大家好,我叫… (a self-introduction). Knowing the purpose lets you predict the questions.
- Taiwanese announcements use fixed phrases: 列車即將進站 (the train is arriving), 往淡水的列車, 第二月台, 末班車 ㄇㄛˋ ㄅㄢ ㄔㄜ (last train), 請勿 ㄑㄧㄥˇ ㄨˋ (please do not). Recognising them saves your energy for the new information.
- Mark numbers in the booklet as soon as you hear them: 三百五 = 350 (305 is 三百零五), 兩點半 = 2:30, 十二號 = the 12th.
Common traps
- Losing focus after finding the first answer and missing the information for the second question at the end of the recording.
- Number mix-ups: 三百五 vs 三百零五, 十四 vs 四十. Also, 塊 (spoken) and 元 (written) are both New Taiwan dollars, not two different currencies.
- Picking a true detail that is not what was asked: the recording gives both opening and closing times, but the question asks only for the closing time.
