Tips

  • Skim the four statements first to know what to check, then read the passage and eliminate.
  • The topic sentence is usually first (informative texts) or last (after 因此, 可见, 总之). The option that matches the main idea is often correct.
  • The right option is almost always a paraphrase: 这种鱼只生活在温度较低的海水里 ↔ 这种鱼不适合生活在热水中.
  • Check scope and degree words: 大多数 / 所有, 越来越 / 一直, 可能 / 一定, 并不 / 不太. One wrong word makes an option false.

Common traps

  • General knowledge that the passage does not state: choose only what the text supports.
  • Two true details joined into a false relationship: the passage says A and B, the option says “B because A”.
  • Skimming past negatives: 并非, 未必, 不再, 难以 reverse the sentence.

很多越南学生学汉语时会发现,有些汉语词的发音和越南语很像,比如“注意”“准备”“经济”。这是因为越南语里有大量来自汉语的词。这个特点让越南学生记单词比较快,但也容易带来问题:有的词在两种语言里的意思并不完全相同,如果只靠发音去猜,就可能用错。所以老师建议,遇到这类词时,最好查一下词典,看看例句。
Translation

Many Vietnamese students learning Chinese find that some Chinese words sound very much like Vietnamese, for example “注意” (attention), “准备” (prepare) and “经济” (economy). This is because Vietnamese has a large number of words borrowed from Chinese. This helps Vietnamese students memorise words quickly, but it can also cause problems: some words don't mean exactly the same thing in the two languages, and if you guess only from the sound, you may use them wrongly. So teachers advise looking such words up in a dictionary and checking the example sentences.

Explanation

Step 1: skim the four options first so you know what to look for (memorising speed, guessing from sound, meanings of Sino-Vietnamese words, the teachers' advice). Step 2: match them with the text: “如果只靠发音去猜,就可能用错” (if you guess only from the sound you may use it wrongly) is paraphrased as “根据发音猜词义不一定可靠” (guessing meaning from sound is not always reliable), which is the answer. Step 3: rule out the others: the text says students memorise words “比较快” (quite fast), not slowly; meanings are “并不完全相同” (not exactly the same), so “都一样” is wrong; and the teachers recommend “看看例句”, the opposite of D. Tip: in this part the right option is almost always a paraphrase, while wrong options change one key word (快 → 慢, 不完全相同 → 都一样).

海防一家工厂里有十几位中国工程师。为了让大家沟通得更顺利,工厂每周五下午都会举办一次“语言角”:中国同事教越南同事说汉语,越南同事教中国同事说越南语。刚开始只有几个人参加,后来人越来越多。负责人说,语言角不仅让大家的语言水平提高了,工作中的误会也少了很多。
Translation

A factory in Hai Phong has more than ten Chinese engineers. To help everyone communicate more smoothly, the factory holds a “language corner” every Friday afternoon: Chinese colleagues teach Vietnamese colleagues to speak Chinese, and Vietnamese colleagues teach Chinese colleagues to speak Vietnamese. At first only a few people came, but later more and more joined. The person in charge says the language corner has not only improved everyone's language skills but also greatly reduced misunderstandings at work.

Explanation

Step 1: the options are about frequency, attendance, what the Chinese engineers learn, and the outcome. Step 2: the last sentence, “工作中的误会也少了很多” (misunderstandings at work have dropped a lot), is restated as “同事之间的误会比以前少了” – option D. Step 3: “每周五下午” means every Friday afternoon, not “每天” (every day); “后来人越来越多” (later more and more people) contradicts “一直很少” (always few); and “越南同事教中国同事说越南语” shows the Chinese engineers learn Vietnamese too, so C is wrong. Tip: watch time and frequency words such as “每周五” and “刚开始……后来……”; distractors often twist them.

坐飞机的时候,很多人会觉得嘴巴和皮肤特别干。这是因为飞机里的空气比地面上干燥得多。所以,长时间坐飞机最好多喝水,少喝咖啡和酒,因为它们会让身体失去更多水分。另外,每隔一两个小时站起来走一走,对身体也有好处。
Translation

When flying, many people find their mouth and skin especially dry. This is because the air inside a plane is much drier than on the ground. So on long flights it's best to drink plenty of water and less coffee and alcohol, because they make the body lose even more water. Also, getting up and walking around every hour or two is good for you.

Explanation

Step 1: the text explains why your mouth and skin get dry and gives advice for flying. Step 2: “飞机里的空气比地面上干燥得多” (the air in a plane is much drier than on the ground) is shortened to “飞机上的空气比较干燥” – option A. Step 3: the text says “少喝咖啡” (drink less coffee), against B; it suggests “站起来走一走” (get up and walk), against C “一直坐着” (stay seated the whole time); and it says “多喝水”, against D “不能喝水”. Note that the right option does not need to repeat the comparison “比地面上……得多”; it only keeps the idea “the air is dry”.
