Cloze passage
TOCFL Band A · Membaca · soalan 26–35
Part 3 (questions 26–35): two short texts (a message, a letter, a diary entry, a self-introduction), each with 5 blanks; for each blank you choose one of four options. Unlike Part 2, the right answer must fit the whole text, not just one sentence.

Tip
- Skim the whole text once first (about 30 seconds) to see who is writing to whom and whether things have happened or are about to. The time frame of the text helps you choose between 了/過/會/要.
- Look at the sentence before and after the blank: connectors come in pairs — 因為…所以, 雖然…可是/但是, 先…再/然後, 不但…也/還. If 可是 follows, the blank before it is probably 雖然.
- If the blank is a pronoun or a noun, check who it refers to: a text about 我的室友 must keep using 她 or 他 for the right person.
- Get used to the Taiwanese settings these texts use: 宿舍, 夜市, 便利商店, 捷運, 打工, 期中考. Spotting them tells you the topic faster.
- After filling all five blanks, read the text once more with your answers — a choice that does not fit the context usually stands out at once.
Perangkap lazim
- Choosing an option that fits the sentence alone but contradicts the next one: 今天天氣很( ),所以我們去海邊 → it must be 好, even though 冷 is grammatical.
- Confusing 了 and 過: 我去過日本 means I have been to Japan (experience); 我去了日本 means I went on a particular occasion.
- Sino-Vietnamese false friends: 新聞 (“tân văn”) means news, 工作 (“công tác”) means a job rather than a business trip, 生氣 (“sinh khí”) means angry.
