Part 4 (questions 36–45) is 實用閱讀, practical reading: notices, signs, menus, timetables, ads, messages, opening hours. Each text has 1–2 questions. You do not need to read every word — you need to find the line that holds the information asked for.

- Read the question first, underline the key words (幾點, 多少錢, 哪天, 可以／不可以), then scan the text. Practical texts are laid out in lines and sections, so they are quick to scan.
- Learn the usual key words: 營業時間 (opening hours), 公休 (regular closing day), 週一至週五, 國定假日, 外帶／內用 (takeaway／dine in), 套餐, 售完 (sold out), 請勿, 禁止, 憑學生證 (on showing a student card), 免費, 截止 (deadline).
- Timetables: 出發 (departure), 抵達 (arrival), 班次, 月台, 末班車; times are often in 24-hour format: 14:30 = 下午兩點半. Questions often ask you to work out a travel time or pick the train that arrives in time.
- Discount maths: 打八折 ㄉㄚˇ ㄅㄚ ㄓㄜˊ = you pay 80%, i.e. 20% off; 九折 = 10% off; 買一送一 = buy one get one free; 第二杯半價 = second cup half price. Work it out in the margin.
- Read the small print and the exceptions: 例假日除外 (except weekends and holidays), 限本校學生 (this school's students only), 每人限購兩個. Questions like 下面哪一個是對的？ often target exactly these lines.
- Timing: allow about 15 minutes for these 10 questions — the most time-consuming part of Band A reading — so save time in Parts 1 and 2.

- Reading 八折 as 80% off: a 200 元 item at 八折 costs 160 元, not 40 元.
- Missing an exception: a shop marked 每週一公休 is closed on Mondays even if its hours say 10:00–21:00.
- Misreading ranges: 12歲以下 includes age 12; 100元起 means from 100 元 upwards, not exactly 100 元.
- Choosing an answer that is true in real life but not stated in the text: answer only from what the notice says.
