Listen: is the ★ statement true?

Questions 1–10: one speaker says 2–4 sentences, followed by a ★ statement printed on the paper; mark ✓ or ✗. From HSK 4 on the audio is played ONCE, with about 10 seconds between items.

Use the gap between items to read the next ★ statement and mark its key words. Knowing what to listen for is essential when you hear it only once.
The main point follows turning words: 但是, 可是, 其实, 却, 不过, 所以. Example: 很多人以为…，其实… — the ★ usually tests what follows 其实.
True ★ statements use synonyms: 他很少迟到 ↔ ★ 他一般都很准时; 这家店的菜不贵 ↔ ★ 价格比较便宜.
Degree and scope words decide it: 有些 / 大部分 / 所有, 不一定 / 一定, 并不 / 很. If the passage says 不一定 and the ★ says 一定 → ✗.
Decide as soon as the passage ends and never go back — the next item will not wait.

The ★ reuses the audio's words but swaps cause and effect: audio 因为下雨，比赛推迟了, ★ 比赛推迟是因为没有人来 → ✗.
Sino-Vietnamese readings mislead: 新闻 (tân văn) means “news”, not new stories; 经理 (kinh lý) means “manager”; 东西 means “thing”.
Still translating the last item while the next one plays: with one play you must let unknown words go and keep the gist.

Step 1: read the ★ statement before the recording and note what must be checked: “效果很好” (works well). Step 2: listen for the turn in “虽然……可是……” — what follows “可是” is the speaker's real point. She says “不好意思开口” (too shy to speak) and “口语提高得很慢” (my speaking improves very slowly), so the online class does not work well for her. The advantage “节约了很多路上的时间” (saves travel time) comes before “可是” and is the trap that tempts you to answer true. The statement is false.

男：我们厂上个月来了一位中国师傅，专门教大家使用新机器。他汉语说得很慢，还常常一边做一边给我们看手机上的图片。所以虽然大家的汉语都不太好，但是很快就学会了。
Last month a Chinese master technician came to our factory to teach everyone how to use the new machines. He speaks Chinese slowly and often shows us pictures on his phone while he works. So although none of us speak Chinese very well, we all learned quickly.

The ★ statement summarises the recording instead of repeating it, so listen for meaning, not only for words. The technician “说得很慢” (speaks slowly) and “一边做一边给我们看手机上的图片” (shows pictures while working) — that is his teaching method. “所以” (so) links this method to the result “很快就学会了” (we learned quickly). Don't be misled by “大家的汉语都不太好” (our Chinese isn't good): it is only the difficulty, not a denial of the result. The statement is true.

女：从河内去下龙湾，可以坐火车，也可以坐汽车。坐火车虽然便宜一点儿，但是要五个多小时；坐汽车只要三个小时左右，所以大部分游客都选择坐汽车。
From Hanoi to Ha Long Bay you can take the train or a coach. The train is a bit cheaper, but it takes more than five hours; the coach only takes about three hours, so most tourists choose the coach.

A comparison item: jot down the figure for each option while listening. The train “要五个多小时” (takes over five hours), the coach “只要三个小时左右” (only about three hours), so the coach is faster. The train's advantage is “便宜一点儿” (a little cheaper), not speed. The last sentence, “大部分游客都选择坐汽车” (most tourists choose the coach), confirms it. The statement swaps the two, so it is false.
